Being a part of Calvary has changed my life in so many ways. I remeber when I first sat down in the church scared and nervoud. After the sermon Pastor Roger gave me his card and introduced me to the concept of descipleship.
My first impression of Calvary Baptist came years before my wife and I became Church members. I had a flat tire outside the Church and someone from the Church offered to help me fix the tire. Years later when my wife and I were looking for a Church that simple act of kindness caused us to visit the Church to see if this could be our new Church home. We can say from the very first day we felt like we were around family. We found the people to be down to earth, warm hearted, welcoming and very friendly. The Church teaches from the Christian Bible and Pastor Roger Kinion has a gift when it comes to his sermons. Each sermon focuses on the message in the Bible. He has a gift at explaining the Bibles message in a way that is simple to understand. There are also many opportunities to get involved in the Lord's work. Is this a perfect Church? If it were, that changed the day I became a member. No it is not perfect, but what my wife and I enjoy and benefit from is that the Church is united in one cause, and that is showing our thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I had the privilege of growing up at Calvary Baptist Church. The men and women who were leaders in the church when I was a child are still active in the body. The mixture of experience at Calvary is a large part of it's success. The church is a Bible preaching church and believes the Word to be the inherent Words of God. Every sermon is concluded with an opportunity for commitment. The church truly believes that collectively as Southern Baptists, we can accomplish more than standing alone. The focus on missions is evident immediately. I have never been as accepted or loved as I have felt at Calvary Baptist Church and I know that anyone willing to be loved will find the same.
We atteneded Calvary for a very long time and have decided to part ways. In the last few years this Church has been all about money. If you don't offer a large amount then you will not be going to heaven. Their are a lot of cliques at this church. If you are not in this group then you are a outsider. It seems like this church has lost its way the last few years. Its all about money and what you do. I know of many families who feel the same way. The church secertary is very rude. The new music minister is the same way. So sad when a church is suppose to be about GOD until money takes over.
Great pastor. Solid preaching and teaching. The friendliness of the people stands out as well.
